Quartz belongs to the trigonal crystal system and typically has a refractive index of approximately 1.54–1.55.

Mystic Quartz achieves its remarkable colour through a specialised thin-film surface treatment applied to the quartz after cutting. This microscopic coating produces optical interference effects that create shifting flashes of colour as the gem moves relative to the light.
